Mario Pieries is an Associate and Global Director of Nuclear at Hatch, where he leads strategy, growth, and delivery across Canada, the U.S., and international markets. With more than 20 years of experience spanning nuclear energy, heavy industry, and large scale capital EPCM project execution, Mario brings a practical, investor‑focused perspective on how nuclear technologies can enable resilient, low‑carbon industrial operations.

Mario has led and advised owners, developers, and public‑private stakeholders on some of North America’s most complex energy projects, including major nuclear refurbishments, new‑build programs, and advanced reactor initiatives. His portfolio includes work for Ontario Power Generation, Bruce Power, Suncor Energy, Aecon, and Westinghouse, and he currently plays a key leadership role on the Darlington New Nuclear Project and previously acted as the Project Manager for the U.S. Department of Energy Advanced Reactor Demonstration Project for Dow Chemicals (X‑energy).

A recognized industry thought leader, Mario regularly speaks on advanced reactors, modular delivery, Indigenous partnerships, and workforce development—critical enablers for capital‑intensive industrial operations and energy investments. He previously served on the Board of the Organization of Canadian Nuclear Industries and is a part‑time professor at McMaster and Algoma University. Mario holds engineering degrees from McMaster University and Ontario Tech University.
